Welcome to our Gold Coast Clinic based at the Southport Trade Centre.
We are located close to St Hilda’s School and Abrakidazzle.
Optimal Communications was founded by Katrine Elliott in Private Practice as a Speech Pathology business in 1993 to become the company in 1998. This growth has enabled training and employment for many staff from professional speech pathology clinicians, speech therapist aids and administration staff.
2013 was the year of change, as we made our shift from the Ashmore City Shopping Centre clinic with the opening of our new purpose built clinic in Jackman Street, SOUTHPORT Qld.
Kerry and Katrine spotted the building on their search, met the owner-builder, Lindsay from Crest Joinery, designed the complete inside purpose built rooms and mezzanine floor and then walked through the CAD 4 simulated clinic within the following weeks. Building commenced immediately and less than 8 weeks later we moved into our new fantasy clinic. It is an artwork in continual process and it is aptly named, Once Upon A Time Therapy.
The name was chosen to reflect the story telling of each individual and their process through life which includes speech therapy. The change in our clinic welcomed a change in our principles and philosophy whereby this centre supported a gear shift in our profession to leadership whilst continuing to be hands on grounded in our community to offer a family based, community centric local service with a global presence. Come take a clinic tour and see what you find…
Entering Katrine’s forest, you must take care as there are old gnarled trees, Snow white’s seven helpers, nocturnal animals including many wise old owls. These owls teach us to look and listen, but also to witness our changes in therapy. Also watch out for the wolf in the sheep’s jacket because in the forest we might meet Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretal. As this is the realm of Snow “write” and the seven dwarves, you must be careful to avoid the bright shiny red apples and stick with the pears growing on the wall.
Look out for “mirror-mirror on the wall” which is the mirror of truth and accountability which may be necessary on your path to development. The Fairy resides in her small house so watch out for surprised she leaves behind her red door if you do great work in therapy.
The forest is the room for pondering, exploration and depth of treatment. Katrine’s role in our team is extensive from working with young children, to adolescents and adults in their individual sessions. Katrine is part of Gold Coast diagnostic team and designates the flow of complex therapy program paths. This involves parental support and case management for complex cases.
Therapy in the forest blends speech pathology with the integration of psychological, emotional and spiritual development. Her specialisation goes beyond paediatric speech, language and literacy challenges as Katrine is also a voice practitioner, rehabilitation consultant (communication) and communication coach. Additionally, with a specialised interest in mental health and psychological-emotional communication with adults and children and a 20 year journey to earn this, she is well equipped to be a guide on your journey through that forest wherever that may have taken you so far. In the forest you may meet many characters and archetypes in your journey to understand yourself or your child. As your journey process comes to life these will promote your development, understanding and personal insights of your own journey and provide for a comprehensive program that strengthens the soul on its unique journey in life.
The essence of Forest therapy is hinted in the words of what is hanging on the walls. The therapy lessons are symbolically represented by the features in the forest and act as tools to your journey if you can read what they mean…
